On June 2’nd, 3’rd, and 4’th, the Alexander Valley Winegrowers Association held their annual Taste of the Valley.  This event is widely advertised and extremely well attended every year.  This year over 2,500 people attended.  Every participating winery chooses a unique theme and really goes all out to create a fun time for the attendees.

Dave and Keith after a tough day on the golf course.  Ready to drink some great wine!

One treat, of the trip, was that we were fortunate to be able to drop in on one of our favorite couples.  Arnold and Connie Pohs spend half the year in Scottsdale and we were lucky enough to find them at home.  For all of you that know them, they are looking good and having a great time.

The chef did a great job of pairing our wine with his creations for dinner.  The first course was Viognier paired with grilled and chilled jumbo shrimp with mango salsa.  The second course was Merlot paired with tossed field greens, a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, bleu cheese crumbles, and caramelized walnuts.  The main course featured our Cabernet Sauvignon paired with herb crusted rack of lamb, minted cabernet sauvignon demi-glace, yukon gold mashed potatoes, asparagus spears and baby carrots.  Dessert was “Chocolate Decadence” and fresh berries with a reduction sauce paired with our Cabernet Franc.  It was a wonderful dinner!

Taste of the Valley - Alexander Valley

This year’s event was unique because we were part of a special group of small wineries working with a local charity to provide the general public a glimpse of wineries not normally accessable.  None of the wineries have tasting room facilities so it was a real treat for us to get access to such a large group of wine lovers.

We had a lot of fun with the “Outlaw 7” theme.  The event was held at the Thunderbird Ranch which is made up to look like an old western town.  All of the winery personnel were dressed up as some type of western character.  We had dance hall girls, outlaws, miners, and a sheriff.  We had a great time dressing up and pouring wine.  The California Human Development Corp was our partner in this endeavor and they pulled out all the stops to organize the event and provide cheerful and hard working volunteers to help us make it a success.  We were able to get some needed exposure and help the charity make some money for their valuable projects.
